Our Gold Winner for 2018 is the Old Cross Tavern in St Andrew Street, Hertford.
A previously 4 times winner of the competition, the pub continues to excel as a community pub offering a superb range of 6 beers including a dark beer (mild, stout or porter) and one from its own micro-brewery brewed on site. The pub’s slogan of “Pubs The Way They Used To Be” perfectly describes the atmosphere where real ale, conversation and discussion are to the fore. There is a fine selection of Belgian bottle-conditioned beer and pies and scotch eggs are available to complement the beer.
The presentation of our Pub of the Year Shield will take place on Tuesday 8 May at 9pm. We hope you will be able to join us.
For those travelling from further afield we will be laying on a mini-bus picking up from Harpenden Station at 7.30pm, St Albans City Station 7.50pm and Hatfield Station 8.10pm arriving in Hertford before 8.30pm.
For the return journey the mini-bus will leave the Old Cross Tavern at 10.30pm for Hatfield, St Albans and Harpenden.
The mini-bus charge will be £8. To book a seat please email Branch Social Secretary Ian Boyd.
The Old Cross Tavern is open from 4.30pm Monday-Thursday, 4pm Friday and noon Saturday and Sunday.
