The Branch will be visiting McMullens in Hertford on Thursday 21st March. This is a lunchtime visit for a limited number of members, meeting at the brewery at 11.30am – a chance to gain an insight into McMullen’s rich brewing history, to witness the brewing process at Hartham Lane, sample the beers and learn about what the company is up to in 2019 and of its plans for the future.
In 2019 McMullens celebrate 192 years of brewing in the centre of Hertford. The company’s founder, Peter McMullen started the company in 1827 and today three direct descendants, Fergus, Tom and Alex McMullen still work at the family brewery. Renowned for brewing the iconic AK, one of Britain’s oldest beer brands, today the brewery produces four beers (AK, Country Bitter, Cask Ale and IPA) and these are supplemented by regular monthly specials. Then there is more recently installed micro-brewery where innovative beers are brewed for a limited number of outlets. We will receive a warm welcome and be accompanied by either Fergus or Tom McMullen and Head Brewer Chris Evans.
To book your place – on a first come first served basis – please email me on les@southherts.camra.org.uk.
As there are reasonable transport links across our area during the day, there will be no Branch transport laid on for this day. Hertford is served by trains from Broxbourne and Ware (arriving at Hertford East Station) and from Cuffley and Stevenage (arriving at Hertford North). East-West buses crossing the Branch area include the hourly 724 Green Line service (Ware – Hertford – Welwyn Garden City – Hatfield – St Albans) and the less regular 341/641 Uno bus (Hertford – Hatfield).
