Special Social Event – The Crooked Billet, Ware – Wednesday 29 May 2019

Written by Les Middlewood

In June, landlords Stuart and Sue will be leaving the Billet after 25 year’s service to the community, the pub and to real ale. Stuart’s expert keeping of the ale has seen the pub gain entry to the Good Beer Guide for over 20 years.

Not only has there been a vast array of beers on the handpumps during that time but there has also usually been a dark ale present and in recent years we have seen beer festivals at the pub. The Billet has been awarded CAMRA South Herts Pub of the Year Bronze three times and in 2014 it reached the pinnacle being awarded precious Gold.

On Wednesday 29th we will be presenting Stuart and Sue with a special award for their support for real ale and a thank you for all the beers – 700 of them over the years. We will be wishing them well for the future.

Come along and celebrate with us. Our presentation will be made at 7.15pm.

The Crooked Billet is on Musley Hill – a 15 minute walk up New Road from Ware High Street. It opens at 5.30pm. Sadly, since the bus cuts, the last evening 395 bus up to the Billet leaves from Hertford Bus Station at 18.01 and Ware College (bus stop over the Crossing) at 18.11 – alight in Homefield Road and walk back round the corner and further up Musley Hill.
