This trip will firstly involve a visit to Paradigm Brewery in Sarratt, then on to The Royston Club in St Albans to present them with the well-deserved Highly Commended Award and finally to the Woodman in Wildhill to celebrate their great achievement in yet again winning the 2019 Hertfordshire Pub of the Year title amongst some very strong competition.
Paradigm brewery was set up in Sarratt at the end of 2014 where they started brewing “Low Hanging Fruit” and “Win-Win”, followed by a range of quality brews, many of which have won awards at various CAMRA beer festivals, including Maidenhead, Woking, and Watford, as well as Hertford Beer of the Year in 2018 with “Black Friday”, known locally as Watford Winter Warmer. Only the finest hops and barley are used by Paradigm, with absolutely NO chemicals or stabilisers being added.
The “Royston” is a very friendly local social club based in the south east of St Albans. Established in 1936, it successfully hosted the branch AGM in 2019, and regularly serves three ever changing real ales. As a superb community local country pub, the Woodman is 11 times winner of our Branch pub of the year and three times Hertfordshire county champion. It serves 6 cask ales, including 4 regularly changing guests.
The cost is £15 per CAMRA member. Non-members not having attended a previous trip are also welcome at the same price, if there is space. However, seats on this trip are limited due to the brewery capacity, so you are urged to book your place quickly by emailing Ian Boyd – social@hertsale.org.uk.
