Branch meeting – Tuesday 16th July 2019

Written by Les Middlewood

The July Branch meeting will take place at the Horse & Groom, Hatfield from 8pm on Tuesday 16th July 2019.

Our speaker is Mick Harrison of the Mix Brewery in Hemel Hempstead. He has been brewing for over 30 years and in 2013 took a decision to turn commercial. His tiny brewery – 70 litres – allows flexibility to brew a range of exciting beers, though a core range has also now developed. Mick will tell us all about his brewing experiences and what the Mix brewery is currently up to. As usual there will be a Question and Answer session afterwards.

In the heart of Old Hatfield, the Horse and Groom is a 16th century, Grade II-listed former timber framed and later brick clad building – thought to house a priest hole. The pub serves up to six real ales, including Oakham JHB as a regular beer. The pub also hosts a number of beer festivals per year. Tuesday is bangers and mash night, so if you buy a pint on the night you’ll be entitled to a free plate! On Saturday it’s a similar arrangement, but instead of bangers and mash it’s is chilli and rice!

Hatfield railway and bus stations are a few minutes’ walk away via Blood & Guts Alley – click here for directions. Buses 300, 301 and 724 all go to the bus station stops.
